What ever the building you are about to build, there may be certain considerations to be taken in mind. Either it may be technical matters or devotional matters. We can consider Vaasthu Sasthram in both devotional and scientific means. Here in this article you will come to know the devotional reasons for considering Vasthu Sashtram before constructing your building.

In ancient times, there was a demon named as Andakasuran. He was ignorant that there is no one to defeat him in this world. So he called out for Lord Shiva to wage a war against him. While the war was going on another demon arose from the sweat which fell down from Andakasuran. It was very dark black in colour and it was very hungry. So it started eating whatever it sees. It also swallowed dangerous demon Andakasuran. Still its hunger was not fulfilled. So it requested Lord Shiva to give a solution for this problem. Lord Shiva gave him the power to eat everything in this world.

Now that demon got the power to eat the whole world. So all Lord’s together went and said about the issue to Lord Brahma. So Brahma called out for that demon and said he can eat the food prepared by people when they build a new house also if they did not build the house according to Sastram he has the rights to give problems to them. That demon was called as ‘Vaasthu Bhagvan’. So if people build house seeing Vaasthu they will be blessed and if they fail they will face the consequences in their life. Vaasthu means living place. Houses built with correct Vaasthu will not face more problems. Happiness and Satisfaction will be filled.

The word Vaasthu refers to a building which is been built or to the land it is been getting built. The word Vaasthu Sastram means the rules to be followed while constructing a building in a land, following the definite rules of Vedic truth. Vaasthu Sastram is one of India’s old traditional knowledge which defines the location of the city, Building infrastructure etc. Records shows that this could be found even before B.C 3000 years. Also it has been described about Vaasthu Sastram in Atharva Veda which is very sacred literatures for Hindus. There were many books and literature written about Vaasthu Sastram in olden days itself.

Vaasthu Sastram main motive is to enhance the life of people, for all their expectations to be fulfilled, and for the happiness of the family. Building which is been constructed should help people to merge with the nature and according to the orders of universe. This work is done by Vaasthu Sastram. This plays an important role in deciding the land in which the building is to be constructed, location of the building, direction in which the building faces, and also the directions of different rooms in the building. This deciding factor is called as Vaasthu Purusha Mandalam. It has either 64 or 81 lines divided in a square box into a single picture. Among the lines some of them represent different Lords.

In Vaasthu Purusha Mandalam Lord Brahma plays the centre role. Among the 81 lines the centre nine line belongs to him and so it is been called as Brahmastanam. In this mandalam there are 45 lords according to the Vedas. The lords of the important eight directions are called as Attathiku Paalargal, North side by Lord Guberan,East side by Lord Aathithan, South side Lord Yeman, West side by Lord Varunan. According to Hindu Ethics Land is been considered as a living human. Each building has its life and this power of life is known as Vaasthu Purushan and accordingly Vaasthu Sastram is derived. This when given as a diagrammatic representation with head of a man in North East, legs in South West denotes Vaasthu Purushan.  These are the historical facts lying behind Vaasthu Sastram.
